PhD Admission Announcement for Academic Session, January 2018 PDF Print

Affiliated to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum)

Applications are invited for admission to PhD (Full time) in Health Sciences/Public Health affiliated to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum] at Indian Institute of Public Health, Delhi (IIPH-Delhi) in the following disciplines for the academic session, January 2018:

  • Epidemiology
  • Health Economics
  • Health Systems (with focus on reproductive & child health and Nutrition)

Course Organization:

The PhD Programme at IIPHD will follow the same structure and organization as prescribed in the PhD Manual of SCTIMST available on the website of SCTIMST: http://www.sctimst.ac.in/Academic and Research/Academic/Programmes/PhD Programme/

Duration:

Minimum duration of the doctoral work shall be three years (six semesters) from the date of registration and maximum duration is five years for male scholars and six years for female scholars and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) with subsequent two extensions of six months each if requested by the student and recommended by the guide stating valid reasons (This includes the period of maternity leave also if availed).

Admission:

The selection for PhD will be carried out inNovember2017 as per admission schedule (important dates mentioned below) for January 2018 session. The availability of research guidesare notified on the website of SCTIMST (www.sctimst.ac.in) and PHFI/IIPHD at www.phfi.org/our-activities/academic-programmes/courses-and-admissions

The selection of Research Fellows will be based on performance in the written test and interview held in the first week of November.

  • Those who hold National level Fellowships (UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) need to appear only for the interview.
  • Candidates awarded Senior Research Fellowships from all sources (KSCSTE, State Government Agencies, UGC, CSIR, ICMR etc.) have to qualify in the written test and interview conducted by the Institute.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and age limit for Admission:

  • Post graduate degree in Modern Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Nursing, Veterinary Sciences, Demography, Economics, Sociology, Social Work, Political Science, Business Management (MBA), Public Administration, and Statistics.
  • Applicants to have obtained a minimum of 60% in undergraduate and PG courses or CGPA GPA 6.5/10. In case of PG degrees in Modern Medicine where marks are not usually awarded, a pass in the first attempt is needed at a minimum.
  • There is no age limit for admission to the PhD Programme.

Method of Selection:

The selection of research scholars will be based on the performance in written test and interview, which will be held at IIPH-Delhi (Gurgaon).

The Institute reserves the right to short list candidates based on the number of seats available every year, academic merit and scientific records of the applicants, letters of reference, availability of research guide/s etc. Candidates must provide a write up describing the research proposal (of about 1000 words) and a “Statement of Purpose for undertaking a research career” (300 to 500 words).

Fees:

*One-time fee to be submitted to SCTIMST as indicated:

Fee Structure: INR
*Application fee 1000/-(During submission of application)
*Admission fee 1000/-(During admission)
*Comprehensive Exam fee 6,000/-(During PhD comprehensive exam)
*Thesis Evaluation fee 10,000/-(Along with Thesis submission)
*Certificates 1000/-(At the time of admission)

Fee to be paid to PHFI / IIPHD:

Tuition fee: INR 50,000/- per semester
Administrative fee: INR 50,000/- (One time at the time of Admission)

Fee payments to PHFI/IIPHD should be made through demand draft in favour of “Public Health Foundation of India”, payable at New DelhiOR through electronic transfer.
