Position Title : Consultant (Field Assistant)

Location : IIPH-Shillong

Duration of Position : 2 months or co-terminus with the project, whichever is earlier.

Brief on the Organization:

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centers of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders. Project Brief:

Meghalaya has poor immunization coverage rates along with vast rural urban differences. In spite of several programmatic initiatives by the government child immunization continues to remain a challenge as strong refusal for vaccines still prevails in the community in some villages. Hence it is a major public health concern for Meghalaya. In collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services (MCH & FW), Government of Meghalaya, we plan to engage with community members (public engagement) focussing on the refusal villages of Meghalaya. We plan to hold discussions with community members and key persons to understand the underlying reasons for refusal of vaccines for subsequent advocacy to address the same. .


  • Provide inputs to understand the local context relevant to immunization.
  • Plan and execute community engagement activities related to immunization in the field. (iii) Conduct discussions with community members and key persons.
  • Carry out transcription and translation of the discussions conducted in the community as and when required
  • Maintain detailed log of field work and processes and provide field work reports.
  • Work with the team in preparing any other relevant reports
  • Some of the above-mentioned activities would require local travel to villages.
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisors.
  • Liaison with Government officials, health care professionals and community leaders
  • Prepare budget for field work activities.
  • Coordinate regarding travel of the field team for field activities as and when required.
  • Prepare field plans for community engagement activities.
  • Maintain detailed log of field work and processes and provide field work reports.
  • Conduct community engagement activities and discussions.
  • Carry out transcription and translation of the discussions conducted in the community as and when required.
  • Work with the team in preparing any relevant report required for the donor agency.


  • MPH/MSW/allied health or other related qualification
  • Desirable
  • Knowledge of the immunization program and policies



Preference will be given to candidates from Meghalaya. Fluency in local language like Khasi


Experience of working in the community. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

Annual Salary (CTC) will be based on the available skills and fitment of the incumbent as per the selection process.
