This is three years study for improving women and child health in rural/tribal India using novel diagnostic technologies for prevalence of TORCH and maternal stress. The objectives of the study are to develop a model for diagnosis and community awareness about infections causing preterm births and congenital malformations and to test the hypothesis that stress among pregnant women in rural and tribal India has adverse impact on maternal and neonatal health as seen in the western countries. The model will include strategies and mechanisms for orientation and awareness generation among women and community in general using both public and private healthcare functionaries.
