Veena has worked as Medical Officer, Urban Health Centre, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation for ten years, where she was responsible for implementation of national programmes. She was a Consultant on a UNDP study in 1995, “Enquiry into the Physical Standards of Health available in the Private Sector in Rural Maharashtra”, conducted by the Centre for Enquiry into Health and Allied Themes (CEHAT), Mumbai, which resulted in a document titled 'Standards for private hospitals and nursing homes having a capacity of 15 to 30 beds'. She put together a background paper and contributed to discussions under the aegis of PRIA (Society for Participatory Research in Asia), Delhi, which led to the publication of a book 'Evaluation of Impairments and Disabilities' in 2005. She has also served as Junior Assistant Medical Officer at Lok Manya Tilak Medical College and Hospital, Sion, Mumbai for three years. Veena has also volunteered with the United Nations as Medical Doctor at Accident and Emergency Services, Rio Claro Health Centre, Trinidad, for a year.
