Swine Flu: Is India overreacting?: NDTV’s We The People show, August 13, 2009

NDTV’s popular national weekly programme that presents a current issue in an active discussion-debate format, had Dr K Srinath Reddy, President, PHFI share his views and steer the discussion on how to halt the hysteria over the H1N1 flu pandemic following the death of 14-year-old schoolgirl Reeda Sheikh in Pune through sensible mechanisms of mitigation and preparedness.

All cases not to be tested in flu zones: The Telegraph, 13 August, 2009
The Telegraph reported India's changed strategy on management of the H1N1 flu where it would no longer be necessary to treat every flu patient in areas where the virus had established itself. PHFI welcomed the patient classification strategy saying it would shift focus on finding patients most likely to become very ill from the infection. The government’s earlier advisory asking all people with cold, cough and fever to visit designated facilities for clinical assessment had put enormous strain on both hospitals and testing centres.

Pinning and tackling swine flu: Indian Express, 12 Aug, 2009
Indian Express published a jointly authored article by Dr K Srinath Reddy, President, PHFI and Dr Manish Kakkar, Public Health Specialist (Surveillance Systems and Infectious Diseases), PHFI giving an overview of the H1N1 virus, with a vaccine and drug update. The view of the authors was that the virus was sure to spread for some time with seasonal flu viruses arriving to keep it company, making it imperative to spruce up efforts at protection and mitigation.

Policy conflict after first swine flu death: Livemint.com, 5 Aug, 2009
Livemint.com published a video interview with Dr Manish Kakkar of PHFI on the scenario in India post the first case of death reported in Pune. The story tried to establish an understanding of how serious the problem was and how best could the nation be prepared to handle the public health emergency.
